Hard to Swallow

The author of Siddhartha wrote a very murky and deep book. According to the book and Eastern philosophies, one can never find oneself if he or she is looking. This paradox says that there really is no self; no answer to the question "Who am I?" There is no real truth, but the truth is there all along. Nonsense, right? We westerners are used to our math and science and our answers and our solutions. We need a ground to stand on; facts and formulas to rely on. Of course, there is nothing wrong with having a different out look on life, and a different perspective on living it. But how much do our facts and formulas really mean? Meaning is lost when one tries to explain and define. The path to enlightenment is not a straight line, but a circle. It leads one right back to his or her "river," no matter how clear or murky, shallow or deep.
