After reading Song of Solomon, I can see how much this book is like high school. The story itself is a little of it's rocker, not to mention a wierd ass ending. Morrison does a good job in shaping characters through the course of the book, changing sympathy with some to dislike with others. That's really how some people are. Sometimes they're your friend and sometimes they're not. It's really just how teens are, and most people for that matter.
My one of my connections is with Macon Dead, suprisingly. He had to take care of his little sister and become a man early on, and I respect him for that. Teenagers don't think about responsibility. They just do what they have to do to get buy. I know because I do it myself, but I don't think it's lazy, I think its human. And even later in the novel, he's just looking out for the good of his family and honoring his father.
